Dear Friends:
As you are aware, the International Triathlon Union
("ITU") is the international
federation for the sport of triathlon as recognized by the
International Olympic
Committee.
Last year, we had communications with your office regarding
an ITU Resolution
enjoigning member federations not to sanction Ironman
triathlon events.
Please be advised that, by mutual agreement, ITU and the
World Triathlon
Corporation (associated with the Ironman trademark) have
requested that the Court
of Arbitration for Sport ("CAS") recognize the
rescission of this Resolution. Therefore
the resolution has been revoked and rendered null and void.
As a result, please note that future sanction applications
submitted on behalf of an
Ironman triathlon event to your National Federation shall be
processed in
accordance with your internal sanction criteria, consistent
with the consideration of
any race sanction application by you NF.
Please feel free to contact me if there are any questions in
this regard.
Yours sincerely,
Loreen Barnett, Executive Director
International Triathlon Union (ITU)
